Shopping list
This project was initiated by a long-term habit I have for collecting discarded shopping lists that I find in and around shops - in shopping trolleys, bins, baskets, etc. I collect them everywhere I go and have them from many European countries in various languages. I find it fascinating to analyze these mostly hand written lists, as I feel that they reveal a vast amount of personal information about the ‘writer’ but also offer a massive amount of data on the social, cultural and economic matters of the place where it was found.
My art practice is mainly formed of participatory projects dealing with issues such as society, home, belonging, displacement of peoples, identity and societies. I regard Shopping List as a participatory project although the participants are unknown. I believe that through these intimate snippets of personal lives of the European shoppers Shopping List captures the soul of the society and full fills that voyeuristic quality that most of us have in us.
Should you want to pass me your shopping list please do e-mail me.
